The dream: to liberate a foreign land from a dictatorial oppressor.  The result: brutal resistance abroad and a divided people at home.  It’s 1899.  The all-but-forgotten war in the Philippines changed America from an isolationist infant to a hegemonic world power.  With humor and horror,  drawn entirely from historical documents, this is the story of a noble ideal's descent into the real world. By noted scholar Elinor Fuchs and historian Joyce Antler.
