André by William Dunlap A romantic tale of Major John André, the tragic collaborator with Benedict Arnold whose charm and poetic sensibilities made him a hero, even as his efforts to betray the Colonial Army to the British make him our first traitor. The play itself is a remarkable example of an early American drama, stylistically informed by its British predecessors, but distinctly American in its sympathies and characterizations. |
